What do I need when responding to an emergency event?
First, your safety is Number One. So your clothing, including shoes, should be concidered.  Cold or hot, fallen wires, boards with nails and wet or dry.
A "Go Kit" with flashlight, extra batteries, medications, your radio operation book, clip board, paper, pens, pencils, bottle of water, snacks, personal hygene "stuff" , extra socks, head set,  two way radio, 24 hour power supply, portable antenna and cable. If you have a high visibility vest and a hard hat, they are good to have along.

As you prepare to leave home, be sure to let your family know where you are going and where the family contact point will be in case you are separated.  Make that contact place somewhere out of the area.

*You will need indentification*. Hopefully, a ARES/RACES I.D. or a county I.D.  If not, a copy of your FCC license. Be able to give a contact phone number in case we need to contact a family member

Where do I go when volunteering?
In Brown County, we will have a staging area.  To find it, have your radio on the repeater frequency of 147.120 + 107.2 pl or 444.775 + 107.2pl.  If the repeater is down,  the repeater output frequency in simplex.

In the staging area, you will be given information on what the event is, the possible dangers, what it is you will be doing and where.  You will have to fill out a form which we use to keep tract of your location.  On half of the form, will be frequencies that will be used during the event as well as other contacts.

VHF- Copper tube J-Pole ..  HF Hustler

Concider purchasing Anderson Power Poles and using them in your power supply lines.  We are using them and they are the national ARES standard.
If everyone uses them, you will always have a power source.
